Offering custom-tailored soccer mentoring solutions that benefit mentors, mentees, and everyone in the soccer community.

Challenge: Improving Soccer

As the Founder of Instepper, I’m continuously thinking of ways to address issues that will improve the game of soccer. Here are some of my top concerns:

  • Fundamentals, especially the first-touch (ball control), are not very good.
  • It costs too much money to play organized soccer.
  • Too many players (either high school- or college-aged) are not prepared when their soccer careers end.

How wonderful would it be if these issues could be addressed at once? I believe that Instepper, with its legions of mentors, can do just that. (top)

Solution: Mentors

The Instepper Mentoring Program is a player-driven, player-run mentor program that easily adapts to the goals, values, and culture of the mentors and their organization/community.

Peer-mentoring, when the mentor and mentee are close in age, is a highly successful teaching model that not only benefits the younger mentee, but in a soccer setting, will benefit the older mentor even more. Mentors will:

The Instepper Mentoring Program provides mentors with unlimited growth opportunities on and off the field. Older-aged players can harness their soccer passion and expertise to develop new skills that will make them better prepared for life after soccer. (top)

Everyone Benefits

The Mentor and Mentee benefits are insane. But the beauty of an Instepper Mentoring Program is that EVERYONE benefits!

Parents, coaches, teams, clubs, schools (high school and college), tournaments, fundraisers, soccer trainers, local communities, sponsors, local businesses. You name it, they all benefit! (top)

Getting Started

There are many ways to get started, likely dependent on your role and function within the soccer community.

Instepper recommends a 2-step starting approach.

  1. Introduce potential mentors to Instepper.
    • Have mentors complete some Instepper Challenges.
    • Share the mentor benefits. Parents and coaches may need to help potential mentors “see/understand” the long-term mentoring benefits.
    • Emphasize that any players, regardless of ability, can be an Instepper mentor.
  2. Start small
    • Invite a younger team to participate in some Instepper Challenges, hosted by the mentors.
    • Gauge mentor, mentees, and adult (parents/coaches) interest. (top)
