Planning for the Future

Whether its planning for dinner or planning what to be when we grow up, people are always planning for the future.

  • It is very important that players to Dream BIG (Instepper has a fun Dream BIG! Challenge). The bigger the dream, the better. It’s vital that players plan for and see that future.
  • It’s also important for player to plan for the future when their playing days are over, whenever that may be.
  • Players should take advantage of everything that soccer has to offer. Let soccer be their teacher both on and off the field. (top)
  • Less than 10% of starting high school players will play college soccer, let alone professional soccer. While players may still have big dreams, the reality is that only the best players will have a soccer career after high school.
  • While soccer (and sports in general) teach many life lessons, those lessons are not always distributed evenly. It’s usually the best players and captains that get that advantage.
  • Fulfilling a lofty soccer dream will face many challenges along the way.
    • A player may not make the team they were expecting was a done deal.
    • An injury may end up being more serious than originally thought.
    • Sometimes a player loses their passion for soccer.
      • Hormones have their own agenda.
      • Too much intensity and pressure can lead to burnout. (top)

Being a mentor is a great way to plan and prepare for the future.

  • If a players dreams of playing college or professional soccer, being a mentor will make them a better player.
    • A player’s First-Touch and other Fundamentals will improve guaranteed.
  • Any player, regardless of talent, can be an Instepper Mentor. Simply bringing their passion, soccer and mentoring will expose them to these important soft skills: leadership, teamwork
  • When applying to colleges and/or interviewing for that really cool job, the player’s Instepper Mentoring experiences will give them a big edge over your competition.
  • Mentoring has little stress and is lots of fun. (top)
